Customer Service Week 2026: Ten Minutes a Day, One Calmer Team

●  START HERE

National Customer Service Week is October 5 to 9, 2026. Somewhere near you a manager is ordering the donuts, and I mean that with love, because I have ordered those donuts. But the teams that still remember the week in November are never the ones that got the best snacks. They are the ones that learned one thing they could use on the very next call.

So this year I built the week for you. I call it Confidence Week: a five-day Customer Service Week built on rehearsal instead of recognition, with one short video a day, two huddle questions, and one phrase to try that afternoon, so that by Friday your team sounds different on the phone. It is free, it is on one page, and it takes ten minutes a day.

The whole program is at myragolden.com/confidenceweek. No sign-up, no login, nothing to download. Open it on your phone at Monday’s huddle and you are running Confidence Week.

●  BE HONEST ABOUT THIS

The donuts are not the problem. The forgetting is.

I have watched this week for twenty-five years, from the call center floor to the training room to the keynote stage, and the pattern is the same everywhere. The celebration is sincere. The banner goes up, lunch gets catered, somebody gives a speech. And by the following Tuesday, when a customer says this is ridiculous in a voice that makes the whole row go quiet, nothing about the call is different than it was the week before.

That is not because the celebration was wrong. It is because celebration and skill are two different things, and only one of them shows up on the next hard call. People do not remember a week as an average. They remember its most intense moment and its ending. Give them a moment where they said a new sentence out loud and it worked, and that is the week they keep.

Confidence Week: a five-day Customer Service Week built on rehearsal instead of recognition

●  THE WHOLE METHOD

Watch. Talk. Try. Ten minutes a day.

Confidence is not a mood. It is a skill, and skills are built by repetition, not by inspiration. One inspiring session on Wednesday fades by Friday. Ten minutes a day, five days in a row, sticks, because your team hears themselves say the new words five separate times before the week is over. So the program is deliberately small.

1

Watch.

Play the day’s video at the start of the shift or in the huddle. Every one runs under fifteen minutes and most are shorter. If you cannot pull everyone off the phones at once, run it by shift, or let people watch on their own and bring the phrase to the next huddle.

2

Talk.

Ask the two huddle questions under the video. Two minutes, no slides. The talking is where the confidence gets built, because people hear themselves say the new words out loud in front of colleagues.

3

Try.

Use the day’s Try It Today phrase on a real call that afternoon. Then somebody says what happened at the next huddle. That loop is the whole program.

Nothing in Confidence Week asks anyone to bend a policy. It changes how the rules sound, not what they are.

●  THE FIVE DAYS

One video a day. One skill a day.

Each day builds on the last, and by Friday the five together are a complete confident call.

Mon

How to say no without a fight.

The Two Doors Method. Most escalations do not start with anger. They start with a no that landed like a wall. Open two doors that are actually open and let the customer choose. Try it today: Here is what I can do.

Tue

Ten anti-inflammatory phrases that calm an angry customer fast.

Some words pour gasoline. Some words pour water. Ten sentences you can keep on a sticky note. Try it today: I hear you, and I have a plan.

Wed

Why customers ask for a supervisor.

Let me speak to your supervisor feels like a verdict on you. It is a request for certainty, and a rep can supply it without leaving the call. Try it today: I can help you with that, and here is how.

Thu

What to say instead of sorry.

Some of us over-apologize, and it is usually nerves talking, not manners. Every extra sorry hands the customer a little more power. Try it today: You are right. That should not have happened. Here is what I am doing about it.

Fri

What to do when a customer interrupts you.

You cannot win a fight for airtime. Let them empty out, then use their name and a bridge. Try it today: Marcus, I want to get this right for you, so here is what I can do. Then run The Second Take, below.

Confidence Week: five days, five skills, ten minutes a day

●  SAY IT WITH ME

Five phrases that sound sure, even when you are not.

Confidence, to a customer, is not a feeling you have. It is a set of signals you send: your pace, how quickly you commit to a sentence, whether you end with a plan or a shrug. These five send the signal. Print them, post them by the phones, say them out loud until they stop feeling like a script and start feeling like you.

WHEN YOU CANNOT GIVE THEM WHAT THEY ASKED FOR

“Here is what I can do.”

WHEN THE VOICE RISES

“I hear you, and I have a plan.”

WHEN YOU NEED A MINUTE

“I am going to take care of this. Give me two minutes.”

WHEN THEY ASK A HARD QUESTION

“That is a fair question. The answer is...” Then answer it. No preamble, no hedge.

WHEN THE CALL IS ENDING

“Let me tell you what happens next.”

✖  NEVER THIS

“Um, I think, maybe, let me see if, unfortunately.” Hedge words tell the customer you are not sure, and a customer who senses you are not sure gets louder. Retire them this week.

●  FOR THE MANAGER

Everything else is on the page, so you plan nothing.

Under every video there are two huddle questions and the Try It Today phrase. Below the videos are three rehearsal prompts your team can paste into Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot to practice on a simulated angry customer before the real one calls, with a debrief built in. There is a fourteen page Manager’s Playbook you open and print from the page: the five-day schedule, recognition ideas tied to each day’s skill, the phrases card, and room to write. And at the end of the week, every person types their own name and prints a signed certificate of completion.

Friday’s huddle is the one that pays the week off. It is called The Second Take. Everyone brings one call they wish they could redo, not the worst one, the one they keep replaying. In pairs, two minutes each, they run it again with the week’s tools: two doors, a water phrase, one acknowledgment instead of three apologies, and an ending that names what happens next. Then you ask the room what changed. That conversation is the whole point of the week.

The usual Customer Service Week versus Confidence Week

Customer Service Week starts Monday.

Five videos, huddle questions, rehearsal prompts, the playbook, and the certificate. One page, free, no sign-up.

●  IF YOU HAVE NOT PLANNED A THING

Twenty minutes this weekend and Monday is handled.

You are not behind. You are exactly who I built this for. Here is the whole setup.

1

Minute 1 to 3. Read Monday.

Open the page and read Monday’s section only. Do not watch all five videos. Know what Monday is.

2

Minute 4 to 8. Print two pages.

The Manager’s Playbook, and the phrases card. Tape the card where the team sees it before they pick up.

3

Minute 9 to 13. Book five huddles.

Ten minutes each, same time every day, Monday through Friday. Title it Confidence Week. Split by shift if you have to.

4

Minute 14 to 16. Pick your Friday.

Decide now who goes first in The Second Take. Someone brave going first is what makes the room safe for everyone else.

5

Minute 17 to 20. Send the note.

Tell the team: ten minutes a day starting Monday, here is why, I will be there every day. Sign it. Close the laptop.

The week that changes a team is never the elaborate one. It is the one that actually happens, five days in a row.

●  QUESTIONS I GET EVERY OCTOBER

Customer Service Week, answered.

When is National Customer Service Week 2026?

October 5 to 9, 2026, the first full week of October, as it has been since 1991. CX Day, the separate global celebration run by the CXPA, falls on Tuesday, October 6.

What are good Customer Service Week ideas for a remote or hybrid team?

Play the day’s video on the team call with cameras on, ask the two huddle questions, and go around the room for the Try It Today phrase. Pin the phrases card in your team chat. For Friday’s Second Take, use breakout rooms of two with a hard four minutes, then bring everyone back for one sentence each. Distributed teams often run the best Fridays, because nobody can hide in the back of a grid of faces.

How do we celebrate Customer Service Week on a zero budget?

Confidence Week costs nothing. Recognition attached to a skill matters more than recognition attached to a budget: catch someone using the day’s phrase on a real call and say so in front of the team, keep a Confidence Wall where teammates post one sentence a colleague said that they want to steal, and write each person one handwritten line naming something specific you heard them do well. People keep those for years.

What if my manager will not make time for it?

Do not ask for a program. Ask for ten minutes, once: can I play a ten minute video at Monday’s huddle and ask two questions after? Then let the room do the selling. On Tuesday, say same time tomorrow? By Wednesday it is a thing the team does. And if the minutes truly do not exist, run it yourself, by text, with the two people on your row who care. Confidence spreads sideways faster than it comes down from above.

What happens after the week? How do I make it last?

Five videos change how a team sounds this week. Keeping it in March takes rehearsal on your real calls, with your real policies, in a room where it is safe to get it wrong first. That is what I build for seventeen teams a year, in person and live virtual, from your scenarios. If Confidence Week shows you how much your team is white-knuckling the hard calls, that is the conversation to have next.
